Following yesterday’s torrential conditions, which ranked amongst the worst we have ever seen on Babble Ride Across Britain, today our riders were treated to picture-perfect weather.
Here’s how Day Six panned out for the peloton.
After a morning wake-up call to the tune of 500 Miles by The Proclaimers, riders departed High Hesket near Carlisle and headed north. A short while later, they arrived at the Scottish border – a major landmark of any LEJOG – where many stopped to take pictures and celebrate the occasion.
The ride then passed through the Southern Uplands, characterised by rolling hills and isolated communities. In truly un-Scottish fashion, the sun was shining and conditions were near perfect for cycling, making the climb out of Moffat and up Devil’s Beef Tub truly one of the highlights thus far.
At pitstop two in Biggar, riders were welcomed in style by a piper and drummer courtesy of My Name’5 Doddie, one of our Gold Charity partners, and our title sponsor Babble, who are aiming to raise £250,000 for the My Name’5 Doddie in support of building a world free of motor neurone disease.
Leaving the Southern Uplands behind, the riders entered the Central Lowlands to finish on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. Although we are closing in on the finish, there are over 300 miles left to ride, with some of the most challenging climbs yet to come – including Glenshee, Britain’s highest paved road, which riders will need to navigate tomorrow.
